reasons i love fall and hate winter

oh how i love fall. i wish it lasted longer! my very favorite is to be outside on a cool night with a breeze and bright stars and moon in the sky with a flannel shirt and ripped jeans. perfect.

i love cheesy kid halloween movies. top 5-5. haloweentown; 4. gremlins; 3. monster house; 2. when good ghouls go bad; and 1. hocus pocus! i also love the genuinely scary ones, but mostly just spooky not bloody. i like mysteries more than gore. i don't like gore. i mean, it doesn't scare me it just grosses me out. if i wanted to see that, i would have been a surgery nurse. gag. whatever.

it's the perfect temperature for 2 weeks in oklahoma. you can leave the windows open without any artificial heat or air. you can wear shorts and a hoodie or jeans and a t shirt and mix it up. i love it. i seriously wish it lasted longer! boo for being so short.

then, boo here comes winter. i hate you mother nature. you're a terrible entity. you tease me with two weeks of my most favorite perfect time and then you bring on icy hell. freezing winds burn my cheeks. snow and ice stick me in the house where i have to stock up on food and toilet paper. i get cabin fever. i have to take my dog out down icy treacherous stairs that i inevitably fall down, and let me tell you, it freakin hurts. and it freaks the dog out. but mostly it hurts. then i get down the godforsaken stairs to the sheet of ice below where my dog in his sweater, because he's twelve pounds and freezes, pees as fast as he can and i fall again and just say screw it and crawl back to and up the stairs to my door. ya. that's why i love fall and hate winter.

Ten on Tuesday

So, I've decided to do a completely positive ten on tuesday, things that make me happy, happy thoughts, good things. we all need this.

1. I discovered on Sunday just how much I love the Blakley grandchildren. My sisters children are just not as well behaved as Brendan and Maggie. I'll leave it at that since this is a positive post. I love Brendan. He's the coolest little 3 year old I've probably ever met, and I worked at a daycare, so I've probably met quite a few 3 year olds. I don't remember. Anyways, B is so funny. He cracks me up. He's quite adorable, and amazingly rationale and smart. Maggie is the cutest. It was so hard for me not to aggressively pinch her cheeks. she has the most energy and she's so inquisitive. She wants to know what everything is, mostly by putting it in her mouth and seeing what it tastes like. I love all her little rolls. Zaney is the cutest. He makes everyone happy just by holding him. I can't do that. Who do you know who can do that? probably only Zane!

2. i love those automatic grammar and capitalizers in typing programs. the blogger doesn't have one. i am not checking my stuff from here on. just correct it in your head.

3. i like t.v. quite a bit. i watch a lot of it. it's on right now.

4. i like to sleep. i do that quite a bit also. if i had mag's energy, that would rock.

5. i love to read. i am always reading something. i am never not in the middle of a book. sometimes i read slower than others, hence i am still in water for elephants, but it's good and i'm about half way through. i've got several others lined up for when i'm done.

6. i like to eat. that's a given. hello! i love food. good food, bad food, food that's bad for you but not so much food that's good for you. not as good. my favorite is angel hair pasta. that's easy, but i can't cook, so i also love people who cook.

7. i love my grandparents. they are so freakin awesome. they got me through my youth (along with the fro and jalynn). they lived pretty cool lives. they have their very funny moments, and i learn something new about them every time i see them.

8. i like comedy. sense of humor. one of carly's (jalynn's daughter) teachers put this on a student's paper, which cracked me up last week. dear student, i noticed you love semi-colons. they will only break your heart; stop using them so much. love, your teacher.

9. i love my dog. like a child. it's probably unhealthy, but i also love therapy. i do. it is so healthy, and it keeps me sane, and i like art therapy and music therapy and guided imagery, and it has made me such a less angry bitter person. phew, i had a lot of pent up anger, but thank you therapy!

10. i love the blakleys. what what! um, my family is crazy. i have always said, my parents aren't bad people, but they were not good parents. that is putting it nicely. God put the fro in my life around 1999, and the blakleys scooped me up and have been there for me ever since. i have said since then, that the blakelys were my people. they have been there for me more than my blood family, and i don't know what i would do without them. it's the truth.

For Zane

Zane Able Korenak,

You are an all too blessed child. I know you've had your rough share in your 2&1/2 months of life, but you are so loved by so many. Unfortunately, one who loved you the most won't be able to share that love with you anymore. Here are some things I want you to know about your Grandpa Blakley.

He was the most amazing man there ever was.

He was an amazing father, to your mother and aunt and uncle but to me as well. My dad didn't know how to be a dad, so when I needed one, your grandpa stepped up. He didn't just do it for me, but for anyone who needed a dad. All these amazing qualities he had let him be an amazing father.

He was very loving. He loved his friends, his students but especially his family and most recently you, dear one. He loved those who didn't have others to love them.

He was sensitive. He was sensitive in himself to what others felt about him but to others needs as well. One thing he was not sensitive to was how many people loved him.

He was loved. He was a friend, a father to those who didn't have one, a teacher, and he was shocked, I"m sure, to find out just how many people were saddened by his loss.

He was smart. He was a teacher, and he was smart enough to find a way to make kids love learning, especially mole day.

He was caring. He cared about everyone he ever came into contact with. He would give them the shirt off his back if they needed it.

He was hard working. He worked as a teacher but also as a farmer. He took care of the land he loved and the people he loved.

The one thing I do wish your grandpa knew before he left us was how much we all loved him, not for lack of expressing it. He thought so much of others that sometimes he forgot to think a little more of himself, and we all thought the world of him.

we love you

thirteen on thursday

i didn't get around to ten on tuesday this week. it has been way busy at work, so here's thirteen for thursday.
thank you to my new follower zachary mark korenak for joining the group. i know have a total of 4 of you, it's kind of a big deal.

1. i am exhausted! it has been so busy this week at work; i've pretty much thought about quitting out of sheer laziness but am too lazy to get around to it, luckily, because i need the cash.

2. i've started calling my animals by nicknames more often. i think it confuses them more than anything else, because they know their actual names. sonic is the cat, because i found him at the sonic. creative, i know. and paco is the dog, paco bueno like taco bueno to keep with the food theme, sort of. anways, they're a duo. bff, if you will. so, i call them by duo names. my latest are pancho and lefty & cash and money. i'm sure in their own way, they know i'm crazy. at least it's just the 2 of them.

3. the cat is ticking me off. audra has always stood firm to the belief that cats are from hell. i didn't used to think so. then, i had an indoor cat...and i am inclined to agree. they ran out of his special food at the vet so he's been barfing. gggross. this means he's going outside more often, because i'm not keen on barf. he gets bored inside also and jumps on top of the fridge from the floor, he gets height, and then proceeds to knock everything i store on top of the fridge, off. thank you. it's not there for a reason. wait, yes it is jacknut! that is another one of his nicknames lately. also, he probably thinks "sonic, i hate you" is his full name, because he's heard it quite frequently of late.

4. i'm reading water for elephants. i just re-started it. so far, so good. the same person who told jalynn it was good told her edgar sawtelle was good, so i'm being cautious. because, edgar sawtelle was so depressing i didn't get halfway through it. talk about a bummer. but water for elephants also got rave reviews from my grandparents, mother and sister, so it should be good. jennifer doesn't like to read anything sad, so it couldn't be too much of a downer like edgar was.

5. one of the best books i've read lately that i think anyone would like no matter what they like to read is half broke horses by jeannette walls. it's a story about jeannett's grandma's life. the glass castle is about jeanette's life, which i also liked but jennifer thought was potentially too sad to read, so it's a personal choice. half broke horses is not a downer at all. very good all around. my gramma and grampa bales both loved it and they read exactly the opposite in books, so it's a crowd pleaser, i think.

6. i am always looking for the next good read, so reccomendations are welcome.

7. i'm still looking for a husband. reccomendations are welcome.

8. i'm super pumped for all 2 weeks of fall to get here! come on october, i miss you!

9. deb, if you're still at the fro's, you should read that book i gave her to read. i think it's called saving ceecee honeycutt. something about her anyways. it's just a good, cute read. you can read it on the way home, since you're spending all your free time cuddling zane.

10. i don't think i'm getting to thirteen. sorry, ten is a good number. i tried to keep it catchy, but it's just ten on thursday. everyone will live through this.
